Book A Nurse Mare
At Cold Spring Mares, the wellbeing of every mare remains our highest priority — whether she’s on our farm or out on lease. We ask that all lessees maintain the same level of attentive care that each mare receives while under our supervision.
Our nurse mare fees are for a six-month lease within a 200 mile radius of our farm delivered and paired with your foal.
Lessees are expected to:
Maintain the mare’s current body condition, keeping her at a healthy weight and condition consistent with her arrival.
Provide consistent and regular grooming including general grooming, including provision of fly masks, fly spray, and blanketing as necessary.
Provide consistent, high-quality nutrition that meets her established dietary needs.
Ensure routine farrier care, typically every 6–8 weeks, unless otherwise specified.
Provide veterinary care as-needed during her lease.
Provide safe, clean, and comfortable housing and turnout appropriate to the mare’s age and activity level and the needs of the foal.
Notify Cold Spring Mares immediately of any health, injury, or behavioral concerns.
Our team is always available to offer guidance or clarification on each mare’s individual care plan and provides regular scheduled check-in’s to ensure all is going well. Together, we can ensure that every mare continues to thrive while fulfilling her important role in your breeding or training program.

We do offer payment plans and accept all major credit cards.
As the program develops with the help of donor support we hope to be able to bring this fee down, as the last thing anyone needs in the midst of a tragedy is a giant bill.

About Our Nurse Mares
ColdSpring Mares recognizes how stressful and emergent a situation can become when you find yourself with an orphaned foal. We aim to help alleviate some of the weight of your situation with the addition of a nurse mare. Our girls are meticulously maintained and ready to swing into action at a moments notice!
For our customers in the immediate area, we are often able to provide a nurse mare within a couple of hours. For our clients out of state, we will either hand deliver and pair one of our mares or send them directly to you via one of our trusted shipping partners within matter 24-48hrs. We recognize, time is of the essence and aim to deliver our mares to you as quickly as possible. We proudly have a near 100% success rate pairing our mares with orphaned foals. We guarantee our mares and should they not work out for any reason, we will provide an alternative mare at our expense.
Bronwyn Watts (founder) is there for you every step of the way, either pairing our mares personally or providing detailed instructions and support for success. Additionally, we are always available to be reached for any questions or concerns.
We recommend our mares stay with their orphans until the age of 5-6 months. Our ladies have vast experience adopting foals of all ages, sizes and breeds and do not discriminate (we’ve even foster-mom’d donkies!).

"Thank you, ColdSpring Nurse Mares, It’s so great to see Micah have a mom to love him. Your professional knowledge and care has given this little guy a great beginning. Tiya has become the perfect mother to Micah and has taken him as her own. 5* rating from Rockland Stables."

"I am so impressed with Bronwyn and her knowledge and passion for horses and their care. Her goal is to bring awareness and action to the problem of equine over-population, and she does so in a loving way by leasing her horses out to foals in need. She is at the ready for emergencies to drive a mare to an orphaned foal. She carefully selects the mares who become a ColdSpring Nurse Mare and she takes care of each and every mare to make sure she has time to recover after nursing a foal before leasing her out again. If you should ever need these types of services, I would highly recommend calling ColdSpring Nurse Mares."

“Great owner, amazing mares! we called and mare was at our barn in 48 hours ready to be a mommy! as a breeder we will definitely be keeping their number”
- Christina H.“So incredibly grateful to have met Bronwyn who introduced us to the most perfect nurse mare, “Peaches”. On April 12, 2020 my mare unexpectedly birthed twins. Them making it past the first 24 hours was a miracle in itself and then when momma decided she wasn’t going to nurse the little filly the unknown set in again. Luckily we were put in contact with Bronwyn and the twin filly got a mother of her own to love her and got her to where she is today, as big as her brother I can’t thank Coldspring Nurse Mares enough for all the help through this insane experience! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.”
- Michele L. “Scottie has been a wonderful mommy to our “not so little” filly. This filly is very rambunctious and loaded with energy. What a lovely mare!”
