Nurse Mares Without Impregnation

What sets our program apart is simple: we are the industry standard for nurse mare programs in the United States. Our model prioritizes quality over quantity in every aspect of care, selection, and service.

Our herd is intentionally curated — not expanded for volume, but refined for excellence. We invest heavily in their health, the best nutrition, and ongoing care year-round because we understand that the foundation of a thriving foal is a healthy, well-supported mare.

Unlike other programs, we do not mass produce mares, pull recently foaled out mares from auctions, or rely on unnecessary impregnation. Instead, we operate with a carefully developed, ethically driven comprehensive lactation induction protocol that eliminates the need for a “throw-away” foal. Every mare in our program is a proven broodmare, selected for temperament, maternal instinct, and soundness. This ensures we are not passing along any bad habits to the foals or creating added stress for the owners.

Our mares arrive fully in milk, ready to pair, and are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Most importantly, we know these mares. We know them more than just by name, we know their personality, the sound of their neighs, and their bodies like the back of our hands. Our mares are a lifetime commitment - safe with us in retirement and even in death with a safe, reliable, retirement with us beyond their time in service as a nurse mare.

When farms choose us, they are choosing the highest standard of care, the most responsible model in the industry, and service that reflects true partnership — not just availability.

  • "Bronwyn brought us a great little mare right away in our time of need. She got the pair hooked up so quickly and easily that you would have thought it was her own baby. I love the idea of no "throw away" babies!! I recommend her services to any that need a nurse mare."

    — Reena L.

  • "I have seen first hand what goes on within this wonderful organization. The mares are happy, healthy, and given a new chance at life - along with all of the foals they have helped thus far. This is an incredible program run by incredible people who care about and always prioritize the safety and happiness of their horses."

    - Maggie K.

  • "When our Quarter Horse mare (maiden) finally gave birth to her gorgeous colt Boojum, we thought the stressful part was over and we could enjoy our new baby, but at 36 hours old she turned on him and began to attack him. At this point the vet came and tried to reintroduce him to his mother but it didn’t work, so I reached out to Coldspring nurse mares. Their response was within minutes and was direct and detailed. They had a nurse mare named Tiya at my barn within 18 hours of me making the decision. During this extremely stressful time they were so calm and helpful in every way. The introduction of Tiya to Boojum went so smoothly and was one of the most amazing things I have ever witnessed. She was so excited to have her new baby and he was so happy to have her too! After a few days of Tiya’s milk catching up to his demand her bag stays full and Boojum is growing like a weed. It’s hard to believe he is almost a month old. I am forever grateful for Coldspring Nurse Mares and Tiya! Thank you again!"

    —Kelly S.

ColdSpring Nurse Mares in a game changer in the way the industry deals with Nursemare and her innovative approach is one to be replicated and admired! I'd recommend her to anyone and everyone!"

    - Jaclyn B.

  • "I am so impressed with Bronwyn and her knowledge and passion for horses and their care. Her goal is to bring awareness and action to the problem of equine over-population, and she does so in a loving way by leasing her horses out to foals in need. She is at the ready for emergencies to drive a mare to an orphaned foal. She carefully selects the mares who become a ColdSpring Nurse Mare and she takes care of each and every mare to make sure she has time to recover after nursing a foal before leasing her out again. If you should ever need these types of services, I would highly recommend calling ColdSpring Nurse Mares."

    - Teresa Martin

“Highly highly recommend Bronwyn! She does something so special with these mares. She jumped in the truck and was to me within 24 hours and her sweet sweet mare Siri took my little guy IMMEDIATELY!! It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen! I am forever indebted to Bronwyn and Coldspring!”

— Cande J.

“This is an awesome life saving service! We sadly lost our mare after foaling and ColdSpring Nurse Mares jumped into action and brought us a mare the next day! The transition to her new momma was smooth and easy. This mare is so sweet and easy to be around, she’s also a great mom to her filly. If you ever need this service please do yourself and your foal a favor and call!”

As the industry standard for nurse mare programs in the United States, we refuse to cut corners — and that commitment comes at a cost.

Our lease fee does not fully cover year-round care, nutrition, preventive veterinary support, emergency readiness, or the lifetime retirement we guarantee every mare. We do not sell off aging horses when they are no longer in service. Our mares are a lifelong responsibility.

Your support helps bridge the gap between operating at the highest standard and keeping our services accessible to farms. It ensures quality over quantity, protects retired nurse mares, and sustains the most ethical model in the industry.

When you give, you protect the gold standard — and the mares who make healthy foals possible.
