Born in 2005, Quicaria is a 20-year-old Thoroughbred mare with an unmistakable air of class. A dark bay beauty bred by the renowned WinStar Farm in Kentucky, her pedigree traces back to the celebrated Dixieland Band—a heritage of quality that shows in every step she takes.

True to her Thoroughbred nature, “Q” is refined, thoughtful, and a bit reserved. In the pasture, she tends to keep to herself, often so quietly that we bring her to her own paddock for meals to be sure she gets what she needs. She may be timid around the other mares, but once she decides you’re her person, she bonds with a depth of loyalty that melts your heart.

Quicaria joined us in 2024 and has lovingly raised two orphan foals. We knew from the start our time with her as an active nursemare would be limited—her arthritis and recurring hip discomfort made that clear. But watching her with a foal at her side is watching a mare fulfill her true calling. She lights up. She softens. She comes alive in a way only a real mother does.

For her comfort and long-term well-being, 2025 was her final year serving as a nursemare. Q will now spend her remaining days here at ColdSpring—safe, cherished, and cared for with the same gentleness she gave her foals.
