Bronwyn Watts

Bronwyn Watts is the Founder and Executive Director of Cold Spring Mares and the visionary behind what has become the world's leading ethical nurse mare program. With more than two decades of hands-on experience in the equine industry, she has dedicated her career to improving the welfare of mares and foals while providing breeders with compassionate, practical solutions rooted in exceptional horsemanship.

A lifelong horsewoman, Bronwyn has spent 18 years as a professional FEI groom, caring for horses at the highest levels of sport and working alongside some of the nation's most respected riders, breeders, and breeding programs. Her experience spans elite competition horses, Kentucky Derby-winning bloodlines, Olympic-caliber athletes, and family breeding operations, giving her a unique understanding of the diverse needs of the modern horse industry. Throughout her career, she has earned a reputation for meticulous horse care, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to putting the horse first.

Inspired by years spent caring for top equine athletes, Bronwyn founded ColdSpring Nurse Mares LLC to provide breeders with a truly ethical alternative for nurse mare services. Through thoughtful management, innovative practices, and an uncompromising commitment to animal welfare, she has developed a program recognized as the industry leader, proving that exceptional horse care and responsible breeding practices can go hand in hand.

Today, Bronwyn serves as the driving force behind every aspect of Cold Spring Mares. Living and working on the farm year-round, she oversees the daily care of every horse while leading the organization's programs and continuing to refine the standards of ethical nurse mare management. Her philosophy centers on allowing horses to thrive as naturally as possible through thoughtful husbandry, low-stress management, and a deep respect for each animal as an individual.

Bronwyn's horsemanship is rooted in a lifetime of learning. She was an active Pony Club and 4-H member, earned her C-3 Pony Club rating, completed training in equine massage and farrier science, and has shared her knowledge by mentoring young horsemen and horsewomen in grooming, stable management, emergency care, bandaging, handling difficult horses, and practical horsemanship. Her greatest education, however, has come from decades spent in the barn, where experience, observation, and an unwavering work ethic have shaped her into the horsewoman she is today.

Bronwyn's passion, grit, and relentless dedication are the heart of Cold Spring Mares. She believes that every mare and foal deserves exceptional care and that the future of the breeding industry depends on ethical, transparent, and compassionate practices. That commitment continues to guide the organization as it serves breeders across the country while setting a new standard for responsible nurse mare programs.
